Episode 5 When Truth is Twisted

Episode 5 When Truth is Twisted

False teaching isn’t just a problem “out there”—it’s something Scripture warns will arise from within. In this episode, we explore Peter’s sobering warning about false teachers and connect it with Paul’s words about people turning away from truth and Jesus’ caution to discern fruit. How do we recognize deception? Why are people drawn to it? And how can we stay anchored in truth in a world that prefers comforting lies?

In 2 Peter 2:1–3, Peter exposes the reality of false teachers who secretly introduce destructive teachings. These aren’t always obvious—they often sound appealing, even spiritual. But beneath the surface, they distort truth for personal gain.

Paul echoes this in 2 Timothy 4:3–4, explaining that people will choose teachers who tell them what they want to hear. This reveals something deeper: deception isn’t only about false teachers—it’s also about willing listeners.

Jesus gives us a practical test in Matthew 7:15–16: “Ye shall know them by their fruits.” Truth produces godliness. Falsehood produces corruption, even if it looks good at first.

This episode challenges us to:

  • Examine what we’re listening to
  • Discern truth from error
  • Stay grounded in God’s Word

Application Questions:

  1. What are some ways false teaching can subtly enter into your life?
  1. Have you ever believed something that sounded biblical but wasn’t? What helped you recognize it?
  1. According to Jesus, what kind of “fruit” should we be looking for?
  1. Why do you think people are drawn to messages that avoid truth?
  1. What practical steps can you take to stay rooted in sound doctrine?

Short Prayer:

Lord, help me to discern truth from error. Guard my heart from deception and give me a hunger for Your Word. Teach me to recognize what is from You and what is not. Keep me grounded, faithful, and led by Your truth. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Because not everything labeled “Christian” is rooted in Christ.
