Episode 5 Lord Who is He That I Might Believe on Him

In the final episode of the “Lord…” series, we step into one of the most intimate moments in John 9. After being healed, questioned, and cast out, the man who was once blind finally stands face-to-face with Jesus—and asks a powerful question:
“Who is He, Lord, that I might believe on Him?” (John 9:36)
This episode is about more than receiving a miracle—it’s about recognizing the One behind it. It’s about moving from testimony to relationship, from healing to belief, and from sight to surrender.
Because seeing clearly isn’t the end goal—believing fully is.

Key Verse (KJV):
John 9:36 – “He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?”
Unknown Speaker (0:01): Wake up. It's time to kick start your day. You are listening to Scripture Link's daily dose of inspiration. Let's go.
Speaker 1 (0:14): Good morning, and welcome to this brand new day. This is Scripture Link's daily dose of inspiration for Friday. I like Fridays. I like Fridays better than Mondays. But I don't know.
Speaker 1 (0:28): It just seems to me there's more Mondays than Fridays. I don't know. But it's Friday, 05/15/2026, and today is National Pizza Party Day. It sounds like a pretty good fitting way to have a pizza party. It also is national bring flowers to somebody to somebody's day.
Speaker 1 (0:50): So go and brighten someone's day with a with a bouquet of flowers as we enjoy pizza on this pizza party day. Looking ahead to the weekend, Saturday is National Barbecue Day, so it might be a good day to get out there and and smoke some barbecue or cook some barbecue on the grill, whatever. And Sunday is cherry cobbler day and walnut day. I wonder how walnuts would be in a cherry cobbler. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (1:19): There's some things to celebrate as we go into the weekend. Looking ahead for our bible study as well. Today's reading is John chapter 16 through 18. Saturday is John chapter 19 through 20, and Sunday is John chapter 21 and Acts chapter one. And I certainly hope you join us as we're we're reading through the scriptures as we're going through the book of acts yet this month.
Speaker 1 (1:48): And so join us if you will. Today, we're gonna finish up this series entitled lord, and it's been a good series, I think. And it's challenged me in some ways as well, and I hope it's it's been a challenge for you as well. And and to give a quick recap, if you missed any of the episodes this week, I encourage you to to go back and and take a listen to it. On Monday, we looked at the topic of Lord, increase our faith.
Speaker 1 (2:20): Tuesday, we looked at Lord, teach us to pray. Wednesday was Lord, I believe, help my unbelief. Thursday was Lord, that I may receive my sight. And today, we're gonna wrap it up with Lord, who is he that I might believe on him? That's a powerful one right there.
Speaker 1 (2:44): All of them are powerful one, powerful ones in their own way. And today, Lord, who is he that I might believe on him? Entirety of John chapter nine is dedicated to the story of this man who was born blind. And take some time, I know we just read this chapter not too long ago, John chapter nine, but say, take some time and and read this account, read this story as we're gonna look at at a select verses throughout chapter nine today. I'm not gonna read the whole thing, just just select verses out of there.
Speaker 1 (3:23): But this man went through many troubles and trials at the hand of the pharisees because Jesus healed him of his blindness and he did it on the Sabbath day. Let's look at John chapter number nine. Let's look here at verses one through five, John nine, one through five. As Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth and his disciples asked him saying, Master, who did sin, this man or his parents that he was born blind? Jesus answered, neither hath this man sinned nor his parents, but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.
Speaker 1 (4:11): I must work the works of him that sent me while it is day. The night cometh when no man work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world. Alright. So just to give a quick background to play it out to let you know what's going on here.
Speaker 1 (4:30): And Jesus was was on his way wherever he was heading to, and and he saw a man here that was born blind. And as Jesus saw this man that was born blind, his disciples had asked him saying, master, who did sin? This man or his parents that he was born blind? Now it was common belief in in in this time that if somebody was born with some kind of physical ailment like blindness, that either his parents had sinned and the judgment had fallen upon the child, the child was blind because of the parent's sin, or the child had did something, sinned in some way when he was young that he was therefore blind. And that's why the disciples asked him, Lord, who who was why is this man blind?
Speaker 1 (5:23): Was he blind because his parents sinned or was he blind because of his own sin? And Jesus said neither, but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. This man was born blind so that Jesus can work a miracle and and do the works of God in his life. And after Jesus had spoke these things, verse six tells us that he spat on the ground, made clay, and anointed the eyes of the blind man and said unto him, go and wash in the pool of Siloam, which by interpretation sent. And he went his way and washed and came seeing.
Speaker 1 (6:08): So this man that was born blind, Jesus didn't just witness this man being born blind. He went and did the works of God. He went and healed this man. He covered his eyes with with clay and he told him to go wash in the pool. The man went and washed in the pool and the man came away seeing.
Speaker 1 (6:26): And surely everyone's gonna rejoice at this healing. Right? Well, we start out in verse number eight, the neighbors therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind said, is this not he that sat and begged? And some said, this is he, and others, no, he is like him. But he said, that's me.
Speaker 1 (6:49): That's me. I was blind. I was the one that sat there blind. I was the one that was sitting there begging. That's me.
Speaker 1 (6:55): I can see now. And they should have rejoiced. But verse 10 says, they said unto him, how are thine eyes opened? And he said unto him in verse 11, a man that is called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said unto me, go to the Pool Of Siloam and wash. And I went and washed and I received my sight.
Speaker 1 (7:26): And they should have rejoiced, but they said unto him, where is he? Where is this Jesus? Where is this guy that healed you? He said, I don't know. That was verse 12.
Speaker 1 (7:39): So what'd they do? They brought him to the Pharisees, and that's where the trouble started beginning. Not only did the did the neighbors and those that have seen him as blind didn't believe that he was healed. Now we see in verses 15 through 18 that the Pharisees didn't believe him either. They questioned him and they challenged his healing.
Speaker 1 (8:10): And then in verse 18, it says, but the Jews did not believe concerning him that he had been blind and received his sight until they called the parents of him that had received his sight. So now they didn't believe, the neighbors didn't believe, now they called in the parents. In verses 19, let's see, 19 to 21. This is the parents' response. They asked him, saying, is this your son whom you say was born blind?
Speaker 1 (8:45): How then does he now see? His parents answered them and said, we know that this is our son and that he was born blind, but by what means he now seeth, we know not, Or who hath opened his eyes, we know not. Ask him, he shall speak of himself. He is of age. So his parents are challenged now.
Speaker 1 (9:09): The Pharisees are now saying, turning to the parents and saying, what is this some big cover up? Is this some big big lie that's been opened up here that you say the guy was blind and the guy lived like he's blind, but he's really not? How was he healed? How does he see now if he was really born blind? And his parents said, I don't know.
Speaker 1 (9:34): They they don't know. So, again, now neighbors didn't believe him. The pharisees didn't believe him. His parents, they probably don't believe him either. And we see here starting again at verse number 24, they called the man in again and started challenging him and questioning again as to how he got healed.
Speaker 1 (9:59): And he tells them the same story over and over and over again, and they don't believe him. And we see here in in verse 25, this is this man's testimony, and I love his answer here. He answered when they're challenging him about his healing. He answered and said, whether he, referring to Jesus, whether he be a sinner or no, I know not. One thing I know that whereas I was blind, now I see.
Speaker 1 (10:37): What a great testimony. Whereas I once was blind, now I see every single one of us that has given our lives to Christ that has received his free gift of salvation can say that same thing. We once were blind to the things of God, but now we see. And they continue to banter back and forth and back and forth. And then finally, he says to him, and I love this answer here, is they're pushing again about how he was healed and if he indeed was ever really blind.
Speaker 1 (11:11): Verse I love his answer here in verses 30 through 33. Listen to what he says here. The man answered and said unto them, why herein is a marvelous thing that ye know not from whence he is, again referring to Jesus, and yet he, referring to Jesus, has opened mine eyes. Now we know that God heareth not sinners, But if any man be a worshiper of God and doeth his will, him he heareth. Since the world began, it is not heard that any man open the eyes of one that was born blind.
Speaker 1 (11:53): If this man were of God, were not of God, he can do nothing. So this man was challenging the Pharisees now. He's turning the tables. He says, hey, You think he's a sinner, and whether he is or not, I don't know. You don't know where he comes from, but apparently, he's a worshiper of God and doeth the will of God because he God hears his prayers.
Speaker 1 (12:21): And the pharisees got even angrier, and they answered him, verse 34, and said unto him, thou wast altogether born in sin, and dost thou teachest? And they cast him out. So he got cast out because of his faith in Jesus, because he got healed by Jesus. If one person walking the face of the earth knew he was blind, it was him. But yet nobody believed his story.
Speaker 1 (12:51): And he was cast out of the synagogue out of the church because of his testimony, because of his healing, because nobody believed him, as if this was some kind of grand scheme to to fool people. Then in verse 35, it says, Jesus heard that they cast him out. And when he had found him, he said unto him, dost thou believe on the son of God? And he answered and said, who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him? And Jesus said unto him, thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
Speaker 1 (13:33): And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshiped him. That was verse 35 through 38. After the man got cast out, Jesus now searches him out again. And he says, do you believe in the son of God?
Speaker 1 (13:48): And the man said to him, lord, I I believe in him. Who is it? Tell me who he is. And Jesus said, it's me. And the man, I believe and worshiped him.
Speaker 1 (14:00): He believed in Jesus. Why? Because he received the miracle from Jesus. He received goodness from Jesus. And we read in in Romans chapter two, an interesting verse here, and then we'll wrap it up for today.
Speaker 1 (14:19): Romans chapter two and verse number four. Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and long suffering, and not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance. The goodness of God was given to this man that was born blind and he put his faith in Jesus. He believed in him. What are we taking away today?
Speaker 1 (14:58): What's our takeaway? In our series this week, Jesus had healed a demon possessed boy and gave sight to two different people. Those that were healed responded with worship and praise and with belief on Jesus. The religious leaders with accusations and disbelief. In John chapter nine, the healed man knew that he was healed, but yet nobody believed him and nobody was able to change his mind.
Speaker 1 (15:40): You know, it's it's kinda what happens in in today when someone gets healed. Probably something very similar to what we just read here in John chapter nine. Why is that? You know, we we have so many healers, I'll say, going around the world supposedly healing people, and we find out later that they really didn't heal anybody. So when someone comes and said, I haven't healed, right away, our defense mechanisms go up, and we we we go into the pharisee mode here and question them.
Speaker 1 (16:26): But I firm I I firmly believe that's why we don't see many healings in our world today because nobody believes it when God does heal somebody. I remember several years ago, I was taken up to the hospital from work because I was having chest pains. I thought I was having a heart attack. And I got to the hospital, and and they they kept me overnight. I was gonna do a stress test on my heart because I was just having the chest pains.
Speaker 1 (17:01): I wasn't having a heart attack. And I get up the next day, and they take me in to to the treadmill and get me all hooked up, ready to do the stress test I was really looking forward to. And if you ever had one, you can really believe that statement. But they got me all hooked up, and and the cardiologist came in and looked at the reading and said, no. This man can't can't do a stress test.
Speaker 1 (17:26): His heart's under too much duress. We're gonna we're gonna have to transfer him to a different hospital and do an emergency heart cath. So I waited in my room for a little while, and the ambulance came and and took me to a hospital up in Knoxville. And I got there apparently too quick because they weren't ready for me for the heart cats, so they they took me up to my room, and that's an important part of the story. And while I was waiting there, my father got to the room, and we were chatting and pretty soon some friends from our church had came to the room and took some time and we talked and they prayed over me.
Speaker 1 (18:10): And a short time after that, the pastor of our church had got there and some other people and the room was full. And they came, one of the orderlies came and said they were ready for me. My pastor said, Well, can we pray before he goes? So they all gathered around and laid hands on me and and prayed. And so and and then they took me down and did my heart cath.
Speaker 1 (18:44): And as we were getting they were getting me ready for the heart cath, they had told me that the paramedics had said that that my heart was in AFib the entire way from from the town we live in up to Knoxville, which isn't a a far drive. And I didn't know what that meant, and I didn't ask because I really didn't wanna know what that meant. And anyway, they put me to sleep, did the heart cath, and I woke up and they took me back to my room and my dad was waiting for me and they found no blockages, wrong with my heart. And the doctor was just in disbelief from what she saw that morning. But I know what happened.
Speaker 1 (19:29): I know that the Lord went in there and took care of it, and I'm not had any heart trouble since. And so the Lord is still in the healing business. But the other main point that I wanted to bring up was Jesus not only made sure that the man was healed of his blindness, but he went back in verse 35 and made sure that the man had salvation. Do you believe in the son of God? The Lord, who is he that I might believe on him?
Speaker 1 (20:06): It is me. Jesus made sure that the man was not only healed, but that he he got salvation as well. And that's what we need to make sure of is that we go out and we share the gospel of Jesus. We share what Jesus had done for us. Maybe you have a similar story of a healing that God had done for you, and you need to go out and you need to tell people about that.
Speaker 1 (20:33): You need to share that with people so that others can be introduced to Jesus. Are you sharing your faith today? If not, what are you waiting for? Think about that as you go through this day and remember, get into God's word and allow God's word to get into you and then share that word with someone today. Have a blessed day.
Unknown Speaker (21:03): Well, you if feel that way about her, why don't you ask her out? I don't know. I doubt she'd say yes. How are you gonna find out if you don't ask?
Unknown Speaker (21:11): Some things we doubt are worth finding out. Yeah. I heard about the opening and I'd like to interview, but I just don't think I'd get the job. Bob, you're the best person for that job. You should go for it.
Unknown Speaker (21:22): Oh, I I doubt they'd even consider me. But you won't know that unless you interview. Doubt should motivate us to pursue an answer.
Unknown Speaker (21:29): Oh, I doubt it's cancer. I'm sure it's nothing. Barb, it's a lump. You need to find out for sure. I doubt they'll find anything.
Speaker 2 (21:36): Are you someone who doubts that God exists?
Unknown Speaker (21:38): Frank, do you believe there's a God?
Unknown Speaker (21:40): Well, I don't know. Personally,
Speaker 2 (21:42): I doubt it. The question of whether God exists is an important one. Don't base your beliefs on your doubts. Turn your doubts into questions and start asking them. The Bible has a lot to say about God.
Speaker 2 (21:55): Be passionate about finding the answer. Another message from Lifeline Productions located on the web at lifelinepro.com.
