Living Like We Are Empty When We Are Already Full

One of the most powerful truths in Scripture is also one of the most overlooked: we already have what we need in Christ.

In Luke 15, Jesus tells the story of a father and his two sons. The younger son takes his inheritance early, wastes it, and finds himself completely empty. Eventually, he returns home, broken but repentant, and is welcomed back with open arms.

But the story doesn’t end there.

The older son, who never left, becomes angry. He feels overlooked, unappreciated, and deprived. Yet his father responds with a stunning statement: “Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine.”

The older son wasn’t lacking anything—he just didn’t realize it.

This same struggle exists in our spiritual lives. Many believers live like the older brother. We serve God, follow His commands, and yet feel like something is missing. We compare ourselves to others, feel overlooked, or believe we need something more to be fulfilled.

But Scripture tells a different story.

Colossians 2:10 says we are “complete in Him.” Not partially complete. Not waiting to be complete. Already complete.

2 Peter 1:3 takes it even further: God has given us everything we need for life and godliness.

Everything.

The issue isn’t a lack of provision—it’s a lack of perspective.

When we don’t understand what we already have in Christ, we begin to strive, compare, and complain. But when we truly grasp our identity and inheritance in Him, everything changes. We stop living from a place of emptiness and start living from a place of fullness.

The challenge today is simple: stop chasing what you think you lack, and start embracing what God has already given you.

You are not empty.

You are not lacking.

You are complete in Christ.
