Do Not Let Your Heart Drift

Do Not Let Your Heart Drift

Unbelief rarely announces itself loudly. It doesn’t usually begin with rebellion — it begins with drifting. In this episode, we walk through Hebrews 3:12–19 and confront the danger of a hardened heart. God’s warning to Israel in the wilderness is a warning to us today: proximity to miracles does not guarantee perseverance in faith.

We’ll talk about the slow creep of unbelief, the deceitfulness of sin, the importance of daily exhortation, and what it truly means to endure to the end. This is a sobering but necessary reminder: guard your heart, stay tender, and keep believing.

1. The Danger of an Unbelieving Heart

Hebrews 3:12 warns believers — not unbelievers — to “take heed.”

Unbelief is not merely doubt; it is a settled resistance to trusting God fully.

• It begins internally (“an evil heart of unbelief”)

• It results externally (“departing from the living God”)

The heart always moves before the feet do.

2. The Deceitfulness of Sin

Hebrews 3:13 says sin deceives and hardens.

Sin rarely looks dangerous at first.

It whispers: “This isn’t that serious.”

But repeated compromise creates a calloused heart.

Hardness doesn’t happen overnight — it happens over time.

3. The Power of Daily Exhortation

“Exhort one another daily…”

Isolation feeds unbelief.

Community strengthens faith.

We need:

• Accountability

• Encouragement

• Truth spoken in love

Faith grows where truth is consistently spoken.

4. The Tragedy of the Wilderness Generation

Hebrews 3:16–19 reminds us of Israel’s failure.

They:

• Saw miracles

• Heard God’s voice

• Experienced deliverance

Yet they did not enter in because of unbelief.

Exposure to God is not the same as trusting God.

5. Endurance Proves Participation

Hebrews 3:14 — “if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end.”

True faith continues.

It does not quit in the wilderness.

Endurance is not perfection — it is persistence.

Application Questions:

1. Have I noticed areas where my heart has grown less sensitive to God?

2. Is there any unbelief hiding behind my reasoning or excuses?

3. Who is regularly speaking truth into my life?

4. Am I actively exhorting other believers daily?

5. If I continue on my current spiritual path, where will it lead?

Short Prayer:

Lord, guard my heart from unbelief. Keep me tender and responsive to Your voice. Expose any deception of sin in my life before it hardens me. Surround me with people who will exhort me daily, and help me endure in faith until the end. In Jesus’ name, amen.
