Built to Stand

Built to Stand

In today’s episode, we look at what it really means to build a life that stands. In Luke 6:46–49, Jesus confronts the danger of hearing His words without doing them. Then in 1 Corinthians 10:1–14, Paul reminds believers that spiritual privilege does not guarantee spiritual stability.

You can have exposure to truth and still fall.
You can hear the Word and still collapse.

The difference is obedience.

This episode is a sobering and encouraging reminder: storms will come—but only what is built on Christ through obedience will endure.

Show Notes

1. Hearing Is Not the Same as Doing (Luke 6:46–49)

Jesus asks a piercing question:

“Why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”

There are three kinds of people:

• Those who don’t hear.

• Those who hear but don’t obey.

• Those who hear and obey.

The wise builder:

• Comes to Jesus.

• Hears His sayings.

• Does them.

• Digs deep.

• Builds on the rock.

The foolish builder:

• Hears.

• Builds quickly.

• Skips the foundation.

• Collapses when pressure comes.

Storms reveal foundations. They don’t create them.

2. Spiritual Exposure Does Not Equal Spiritual Strength (1 Corinthians 10:1–5)

Paul reminds the Corinthians:

• Israel was delivered.

• They were baptized unto Moses.

• They ate spiritual meat.

• They drank spiritual drink.

• Christ was with them.

“But with many of them God was not well pleased.”

They had miracles.

They had leadership.

They had provision.

But they lacked obedience.

3. Warning Signs from the Wilderness (1 Corinthians 10:6–10)

Paul lists their failures:

• Lusting after evil things.

• Idolatry.

• Sexual immorality.

• Testing Christ.

• Murmuring.

All of these began in the heart long before they showed up in behavior.

Disobedience is rarely dramatic at first—it’s gradual.

4. A Loving Warning (1 Corinthians 10:12)

“Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.”

Confidence without vigilance is dangerous.

Familiarity with God’s Word is not the same as submission to it.

We don’t fall suddenly.

We drift slowly.
